most of their services in that detachment. This deponent and the said Oak served together in that enlistment between three and four months when they were discharged and went home together, this deponent supposing that he had served his full period of enlistment. But when he made application for his own pension which he now draws under the act of 7 June 1832 he was allowed only for three months service in the aforesaid enlistment. For that period he was allowed and the said Nathaniel Oak performed as much service at that time as this deponent did. This deponent was about 17 years old at the time and the said Oaks a few months younger as he believes —
This deponent further says that the said Nathaniel Oak resided in the said town of Winchendon a few years after the war or after the said services were performed and then removed into the town of Athens in the state of Vermont where he was living when this deponent last heard of his living — he understands that he is now dead.

Keep in mind: Part of pension file W.25398 (Nathaniel Oak of Athens, Vt., died 25 March 1830, married Susan Evans 1787; widow Susan Oaks). The file itself is a Confirmed record of that man. That he is the Nathaniel Oak born 1762, son of Seth Oak of Winchendon and Athens, is Likely: an inquirer's 1923 letter (scan 00116) says so and the Pension Office reply fits his 1780 service; the file never names his parents. Keep this file separate from the Chelsea pensioner's S.18534.
