Bellows Falls Vermont Jany 2d 1839

Sir I enclose the application of Susan Oaks for a pension together with all the evidence in support of her claim that we have been able to obtain — it is supposed that the 3 months service mentioned in the declaration might have been performed in Col Nixons Regt — If upon referring to the returns in your office, the 9 months service shall be proved, a certificate may be forwarded, otherwise upon being informed of the fact we will endeavor to procure additional evidence of the service. —

Very Respectfully

Yr. obt. servt. —

A. S. Campbell

Keep in mind: Part of pension file W.25398 (Nathaniel Oak of Athens, Vt., died 25 March 1830, married Susan Evans 1787; widow Susan Oaks). The file itself is a Confirmed record of that man. That he is the Nathaniel Oak born 1762, son of Seth Oak of Winchendon and Athens, is Likely: an inquirer's 1923 letter (scan 00116) says so and the Pension Office reply fits his 1780 service; the file never names his parents. Keep this file separate from the Chelsea pensioner's S.18534. The nine-month total is conditional in the letter.
