I Nathaniel Oak of Chelsea in the County of Orange and State of Vermont, aged 86 years, a Revolutionary pensioner of the United States, do say and say [as written], that I was well acquainted with Joseph Marble, late of Faystown in the County of Washington and State of Vermont, and formerly of Winchester, N.H., and also with his wife, Susan Marble, who now resides in said Fayston — her name before marriage was Susan Button, and she is my half sister. I resided in said Winchester during the Revolutionary War, and was present at the wedding when the said Joseph Marble was married to the said Susan Button, that took place, according to my best recollection, in the spring of the year 1777, and at Brattleboro, Vt., a short distance from Winchester. I well recollect that Benjamin Marble, a brother of said Joseph, was also present at the marriage, and they were married by the minister of Brattleboro, and I think his name was Rev. [surname not legible; a following phrase is struck through in the original] — not positive as to the name. He was licensed to marry without publishing, and many from New Hampshire went to Brattleboro to be married.
