How to read this page

Sex is as recorded in the family tree. Age at death is worked out from the dates shown and may be a range or an approximation. It is left out when a date is missing or is only a “before”, “after” or “between” date, when the research has found a date Unconfirmed, when the two dates conflict, or when they would mean an age over 110.

Life events

Born25 OCT 1839, Canaan, Somerset, Maine
Likely evidence: show why

Why: His obituary says he was born in Canaan in 1839, son of Nathaniel and Hannah (Dow) Ames; the Eames-Ames Genealogy gives Oct. 25, '1839-40', and the 1900 census Oct. 1839. The day rests on the family history alone.

Died15 Aug 1928, East Madison, Somerset, Maine, USA
Likely evidence: show why

Why: The family history gives Aug. 15, 1928, a Wednesday, and his obituary says he died suddenly 'on Wednesday night as he was retiring', at the East Madison farm where he and Annie had lived for years; his stone gives 1928. Skowhegan was his burial place, and Find a Grave's Waterville has no source.
