Sex is as recorded in the family tree. Age at death is worked out from the dates shown and may be a range or an approximation. It is left out when a date is missing or is only a “before”, “after” or “between” date, when the research has found a date Unconfirmed, when the two dates conflict, or when they would mean an age over 110.
Overview
Biography
Rilla Evonda Dupriest lived in Alabama, Michigan, Mississippi and New Hampshire. The later records show her working as a nurse.
Birmingham and Michigan
Rilla was born on April 13, 1907, according to her death record and the Social Security Death Index. Her family tree gives Alexander City, Alabama, as her birthplace. By 1935 she lived in Birmingham with Louis Gordon Dixon and their daughter Evelyn (1940 census; Birmingham News).
Likely About this evidence
Rilla's death certificate names Sidney Johnson DuPriest as her father, with Evelyn as informant, but says her mother's name could not be learned. The tree's Frances Adeline Philyaw and the precise birthplace remain unconfirmed.
In 1940 the family was in Lake Township, Michigan, near St Clair Shores. Louis worked as a patrolman at an auto-body factory; Rilla was recorded as a homemaker, and seven-year-old Evelyn attended school. The census valued their home at $1,500 and recorded Louis's 1939 earnings as $1,750. His draft card later that year named Rilla as his wife and the Murray Corporation of Detroit as his employer (1940 census).
Confirmed About this evidence
The census and draft card establish the household. Their addresses differ, without an explanation in these records.
A second marriage and nursing
Rilla's gravestone identifies her as the wife of L. G. Dixon from 1929 to 1948 and of George Clement from 1949 to 1953. In 1950, she lived on North Main Street in Monroe County, Mississippi, as George's wife. He was a railroad special agent; she worked forty hours a week as a practical nurse at a hospital. Two children were listed as George's children. Evelyn was then a student nurse in Birmingham (Find a Grave; 1950 census).
Likely About this evidence
The gravestone supplies the marriage-year ranges; no marriage records or husbands' death records are cited. A nearby George Clement marker is a Likely match, with a birth year that differs from his census age. The census does not establish Rilla's relationship to the two children. The end of her second marriage is not independently documented.
New Hampshire
By 1970, Rilla lived on Main Street in Danville, New Hampshire, where Evelyn and her family also lived. Her death certificate described her usual occupation as registered nurse in hospitals. She died at Exeter Hospital on November 4, 1970, aged 63, and was buried at Masonic Cemetery in Amory on November 8 (New Hampshire death certificate 70-6419; SSDI).
Confirmed About this evidence
The death certificate places Exeter in New Hampshire, correcting the tree's Exeter, Maine. It records her as widowed and names Evelyn as the informant. The date of her move, her employers and the transition from practical to registered nursing are not established.
