How to read this page

Sex is as recorded in the family tree. Age at death is worked out from the dates shown and may be a range or an approximation. It is left out when a date is missing or is only a “before”, “after” or “between” date, when the research has found a date Unconfirmed, when the two dates conflict, or when they would mean an age over 110.

ResidenceOccupation: Clerk, 1850, Madison, Mississippi, USA
Marriage8 Jan 1863, Monroe County, Mississippi, with Emily Mary Holloway 1842–bef. 1920
Confirmed evidence: show why

Why: The county marriage book (vol. 3, p. 176, image inspected): the bond and license are dated 5 Jan 1863 and the justice of the peace's return says the marriage was solemnized on 8 Jan 1863; it was recorded on 16 Mar 1863. The indexes' '5 Jan' is the bond and license date, not an error, and 'John E.' is a transcription variant: the bond is signed 'John B. Dickson'. The entry names no parent.

Earlier: Confirmed (09-24-2026, marriage book image): Read earlier as 8 Jan 1863, with the indexes' 5 Jan taken to be wrong.
