Military service1899, Gloster, Amite, Mississippi, USA
Military serviceFirst lieutenant of the Gloster Light Infantry, a Mississippi state company mustered in in 1899, 1899, Gloster, Mississippi
Likely evidence: show why

Why: The Brookhaven Leader of 13 September 1899 reports the Gloster Light Infantry mustered in with 'W. O. Ligon, Jr., first lieutenant', and the Southern Herald of 8 December 1899 calls him 'Lieut. W. O. Ligon, Jr., of the Gloster Light Infantry'. This was a Mississippi state company; no Spanish-American War service is claimed, and no federal roster names him. The identification rests on 'Jr.' and Gloster. (Quoted in a service-records review; the newspaper pages themselves were not re-checked.)
