Biography
Edna Whitford grew up in Trumbull County, Ohio, came to Paterson with her widowed mother, married Raymond W. Weiss and outlived her husband and her son there.
Ohio to Paterson
In January 1920 Edna K. Whitford, six, was living in Trumbull County, Ohio, with her father, Robert Whitford, a native of Girard, her mother, Eleanora, who had been born in New Jersey, and her younger sister and brother (1920 census). Her father, a school fireman, died at Girard on February 1, 1928, at forty; his death certificate names his own parents as Alex Whitford, born in Ireland, and Florence Ebert (death certificate). By 1930 the widowed Eleanor had taken the children to Paterson, where Edna, seventeen, lived with her mother, her sister and two younger brothers (1930 census).

Edna was born in Ohio about 1913; the Social Security and state death indexes give February 5, 1913. In April 1940 she was 26, with two years of high school, and lived with her husband, Raymond W. Weiss, a service-station attendant, at 1075 East 24th Street in Paterson, with their daughter and their son, Raymond Jr., aged two (1940 census).
