Biography

Raymond William Weiss, the son of a Swiss-born weaver, was born and died in Paterson, New Jersey.

A weaver's son

Raymond was born in Paterson on September 16, 1910 (draft card). In 1915 he lived with his parents, Charles and Emma Weiss, and his brothers Charles, George and Edward at 177 Madison Avenue (1915 state census). The 1920 census lists the family on 22nd Street: his father, born in Switzerland, his mother, born in Ohio, and the four boys (1920 census).

Paterson

In 1940 Raymond, 29, was a service-station attendant living at 1075 East 24th Street with his wife Edna, 26, who was born in Ohio, and their daughter and baby son (1940 census). When he registered for the draft that October he worked for Brustlin Brothers and named Mr. George Weiss, apparently his elder brother, as the person who would always know his address (draft card).

Raymond died in Paterson on December 29, 1988, aged 78 (death index; Social Security Death Index). His son, Raymond W. Weiss Jr., died in 1990.
