How to read this page
- Photos and clippings count items you can view here.
- Cited or transcribed records are counted separately.
- Story links lead to accounts about the person; “Mentioned in another story” marks a passing reference.
- Memorial links open Find a Grave.
- A “family recollection” label marks something a relative remembered, not a written record.
- A military-service label rates the record of that service, not the whole life.
Sex is as recorded in the family tree. Age at death is worked out from the dates shown and may be a range or an approximation. It is left out when a date is missing or is only a “before”, “after” or “between” date, when the research has found a date Unconfirmed, when the two dates conflict, or when they would mean an age over 110.
Overview

Biography
A farmer at Chataignier
Lucas Miller was a farmer at Chataignier, Louisiana, born there on September 8, 1896 by his own draft card. He served in Company G, 84th Infantry, from September 4, 1918, to February 12, 1919, with no overseas service, and by 1920 he and his wife Dea Aucoin farmed a rented place at Chataignier. Their son Rellim James was born in 1922.
Confirmed About this evidence
Some other recorded ages differ. The exact wedding date remains unresolved; the tree's 1911 date conflicts with records from November and December 1919.
Lucas died in Evangeline Parish on December 19, 1929, aged 33 according to the state index. His cause of death is unknown. His widow, by then remarried, applied for his government headstone in 1947, and photographs show his cross and military marker at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The story below tells the rest, with his draft card, the farm and the marker.
Confirmed About this evidence
The 1947 application does not establish how long the grave had been unmarked or why the application was made then. A 1944 caption on the uniform photograph conflicts with Lucas's death date and is not accepted.
