Why: Marlborough's marriage entry names George Oake and Lydia Eager on 23 October 1744; that this George is Mary Holloway's son rests on his age and on Parkman's mention of a 'Uncle George' of her grandson Jonathan Oake, and is Likely.

| Guardianship | Named among the eight children of Nathaniel Oak in a guardian's bond: 'To George in his second by my special appointment'; his guardian was Jonathan Forbush of Sutton, Feb 1721/2, Westborough, Massachusetts Confirmed evidence: show whyWhy: In the guardian's bond of early February 1721/2 (frame 774 of the Middlesex probate file), Jonathan Forbush of Sutton took the guardianship of eight children of the late Nathaniel Oak of Westborough, named Mary, Anne, John, Jonathan, George, Nathaniel, William and Hannah. George's age is given as 'in his second' (year) with the judge's own appointment of the guardian, which fits a birth about 1720. Records: Review: assessed 10-02-2026; evidence: Image examined. |

| Military service | 20 AUG 1777, Rutland, Massachusetts, USA |
| Military service | Private in Capt. David Bent's company of Rutland, which marched to Bennington on the alarm of 20 August 1777; also on Rutland's list of alarm men in 1775, 20 Aug 1777, Rutland, Massachusetts Likely evidence: show whyWhy: Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors vol. 11 p. 603 lists 'Oaks, George', private in Capt. David Bent's company (Rutland), detached 20 August 1777 and marched from Rutland to Bennington on an alarm (11 days). Reed's History of Rutland (p. 177) lists 'George Oak' among Rutland's alarm men of 1775 (not on the minute-men roll, as the family register says). The identification with this George rests on there being one George Oak in Rutland in 1775-86 and on Westborough and Rutland records tying his family to Rutland (a son Jesse baptised there in 1771, and the 1771 guardianship papers of his daughters Thankful and Vasti); no record gives his age. The seaman 'Oaks, George' and the sailor 'Oakes, George' also printed in Soldiers and Sailors are other men. A 'Ens. George Oaks' on a Rutland committee report of the 1780s may be the same man or a son of the same name and is not used here. Service in the earlier colonial wars, claimed by the family register, was not found in any roll. Records:
