Sex is as recorded in the family tree. Age at death is worked out from the dates shown and may be a range or an approximation. It is left out when a date is missing or is only a “before”, “after” or “between” date, when the research has found a date Unconfirmed, when the two dates conflict, or when they would mean an age over 110.

Why: The Westborough record of Seth's birth names his parents as Nathaniel and Tabitha Oak; the 1906 register gives Tabitha Rice, married 20 February 1726/7, and the Rice wills name Seth and William Oakes as grandsons. The Marlborough marriage entry has not been seen.

Why: The Westborough record names Nathaniel Oak and his wife Tabitha as Seth's parents. That this Nathaniel is Nathaniel Jr. (b. 1703/4), son of the immigrant, rests on the 1906 register and the Rice wills; the register is a compilation.

Why: The Walton genealogy (1898) and the 1906 register make Beriah, born 22 November 1743 at Westborough, a son of Nathaniel Oak Jr. (b. 1703/4), who moved to Bolton in 1745; no record seen names the father.

| Guardianship | Named among the eight children of Nathaniel Oak in a guardian's bond; he chose Jonathan Forbush as guardian at his own election, and a 1729 account calls him the eldest son, then of full age, Feb 1721/2, Westborough, Massachusetts Likely evidence: show whyWhy: In the guardian's bond of early February 1721/2 (frame 774 of the Middlesex probate file), Jonathan Forbush of Sutton took the guardianship of eight children of the late Nathaniel Oak of Westborough, named Mary, Anne, John, Jonathan, George, Nathaniel, William and Hannah. The age word after his name is struck or smeared and was not read reliably (it begins 'nine'), which would fit a birth in 1703/4. The 1729 guardian's account calls Nathaniel Oak 'eldest son of the said deceased (now of full age)' (the transcriber's reading). Records: Review: assessed 10-02-2026; evidence: Image examined. |
